Got Crabs?

Last night, I attended my first crab boil. It was a humbling experience to say the least. Back Forty has a summer special where you can reserve a spot on Tuesdays or Saturdays( 7pm or 9:30pm) for 14 people. I didn't know what to expect but had a great messy time!

They spread newspapers on the table and passed out wooden mallets to start. Then the food arrived. Small bowls of tomato and cucumber salad and fried salt cod fritters with an aioli dipping sauce were served family style. Bowls of baby red bliss potatoes and grilled yellow corn covered with Old Bay seasoning followed suit. Then buckets of spicy steamed blue crabs were dumped in the center of the table and the feast began! At first we were all cheering whenever they replenished the crab supply but at some point, everyone just looked up wearily. So I ate...and ate...and kept eating even when the rest of the table had stopped. I lost count but I must have put away 15 crabs. I washed it all down with giant glasses of Sixpoints Righteous Rye. I was one happy camper.

For dessert, we were served a berry cobbler with whipped cream. I would have preferred it warm and a la mode, but still polished off the whole thing! For $40 a person (excluding tax, tip and drinks), it was one helluva a deal!
