Thanksgiving in Ann Arbor

I spent Thanksgiving in Ann Arbor this year. It's been so long since I've spent it in California. Ever since I moved to New York, it has turned more into a holiday spent with friends rather than family. Plane tickets home are ridiculous and not really affordable especially since I go home for Christmas every year. It was an odd feeling for me to not be the one cooking the entire meal. I made cranberry sauce, buttermilk parmesan biscuits and pumpkin cheesecake, but the majority of the meal was already taken care of! I felt useless and idle sitting on the couch snacking on cheese and drinking mimosas. So this is how the rest of the world lives.....It's hard for me to not try to take over when someone else cooks too. I have be completely out of the kitchen or else doing it myself. The whole meal was delicious and I ate wayyy too much. I realize now I have no pictures of the dinner on my camera but the menu included:

turkey
mashed potatoes
rosemary gravy
cranberry sauce
broccoli with lemon butter
roasted pearl onions
buttermilk parmesan biscuits
sweet potato pie
pumpkin cheesecake
lots and lots of wine

On my last night there, we went to eat at Slow's Bar-B-Q in Detroit. It was quite possibly the best barbeque I've ever had. Granted I haven't eaten at that many places, but I think it beats Dinosaur BBQ by miles. It was just an amazing delicious meal. I'm still drooling as I think about it now. Slow's was even featured on Man v. Food!

I love the variety of sauces. I made my own concoction. Unfortunately they're signature Orange Pop sauce wasn't there!

Yum... chili with cheddar and oyster crackers.

Fried catfish with creole remoulade

Half slab baby back ribs and pulled pork

The best macaroni and cheese EVER! I consider myself a mac n' cheese connoisseur and this was really freaking amazing.

I wish Slow's had a NY outpost!! If you're in Detroit, eat here! It is worth the wait (and yes, there will be a wait.)
