All American Weekend

I had a particularly unhealthy weekend which involved no exercise and lots of fatty foods. I tried Crif Dogs for the first time, late Friday night. I thought it was delicious, but given that it was nearly 4am when I had it, my judgment was a bit impaired. I'll have to go back during normal hours and give it another try. It was pretty crowded given how late it was, but I guess lots of New Yorkers share my sentiments for the "fourth meal." Luckily, my friends and I were able to snag a table after staring down a couple that had finished eating and were just chatting.

I ordered the Good Morning dog--bacon wrapped hot dog with a fried egg and melted cheese. It was so amazing, I forgot to take a picture until I was about halfway through. I'm a ketchup fanatic so of course I slathered it on my dog, even though it was plenty flavorful enough with all the fatty toppings.

I'm a HUGE fan of fries...and cheese..and cheese fries so also got an order of those. YUM. They were the waffle cut kind. The cheese tasted like the processed kind, but I don't discriminate against any cheese or cheese products.

I don't know the name of this one, but a friend ordered it. It's a bacon wrapped dog topped with avocado. I'm not a huge avocado fan, but this looks pretty tasty right about now!

Who can actually resist tater tots?? These were fried to order and were steaming when I bit into them. Totally hit the spot at 4am.

The next day, some friends and I trekked out to Dumbo for some pizza at Grimaldi's. I love love thin crust, coal oven pizza so I can never say no Grimaldi's. There is always a pretty long line to be seated, but fortunately for me, I was running late, got lost off the subway and by the time I found the place, my friends were first in line!

The restaurant is packed tightly...like a sardine can. Expect to be very cozy with your neighbor. There is, however, plenty of room to shovel pizza into your mouth. They make the pizzas in an "open kitchen" and the coal oven is right behind the counter.

Pizza #1: Margherita...I love simple pizzas so this was my favorite.

Pizza #2: sausage and mushroom

Pizza #3: extra basil, tomato and extra cheese...note the steam coming off the top! We got greedy after ordering two and decided to order a third one, but two pizzas is definitely enough for five people.

And because it's just right around the corner, we stopped at Jacques Torres' chocolate factory and store. I amazingly (disgustingly) ordered a Wicked hot chocolate, a chocolate chip cookie and some exotic chocolates. The hot chocolate is VERY rich and thick...not for the faint of stomachs. The chocolate chip cookie was yummy and I ate it slowly over the course of the day. The chocolates are still in my fridge, waiting to be devoured.

To answer some questions you probably have. No, I don't eat like this all the time. Yes, I am amazed by my own appetite too. :)
