Mama Doan's Birthday Dinner

It's funny how I lose track of how old my family members are. I know it sounds shameful that I can't even remember my mom's age, but it's not because I don't care. No matter how old my mom gets, she's still my mom. So every year, even though we celebrate her birthday, to me nothing has changed. I actually have to calculate her age because I never really think about it. For her birthday this year, I cooked up a special dinner to celebrate her awesomeness. It's the first time in years, I've been around to celebrate properly.

As much as I like to eat out, when eating with my family, we stay in. It's just easier, cheaper and generally the food is far better than anything we can get in restaurants. My mom is an amazing cook and I'm not too shabby in the kitchen. Together, we are a force to be reckoned with! I say this modestly, of course.

Mama Doan's 56th Birthday Dinner

grilled new york steak with miso butter
grilled asparagus with parmesean, lemon zest and chives
crispy potatoes and japanese sweet potatoes
cauliflower puree

green tea chiffon cake from Paris Baguette
Robert Mondavi Merlot

Needless to say, we were stuffed. Surprisingly not a lot of leftovers except for the cake. It's so light and fluffy and super delicious if you like green tea. There are also bits of red bean in the cake. Mmmmh. In fact, I'm eating some right now as I write this entry.

As always, I'm lazy to type up recipes but if you'd like any for these dishes, let me know!
